Hmmm ... Can "Inglourious Basterds" pull of an upset at the Oscars? I'm beginning to think that this may be one of those Oscar derbies in which the front-runner is really behind us and everybody, at this place on the track and the calendar, is looking at the wrong horses. Remember those years when pre-autumn releases "Annie Hall," "Braveheart" and "Gladiator" came trotting back, triumphant, into the derby after late-year releases tripped up? Yes, " Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire" is a front-runner, one of several, and will nab nominations for best picture, director, screenplay, actress and supporting actress. I think it's guaranteed of at least one win: Gabourey Sidibe for best actress. Probably Mo'Nique for supporting actress too, but there's room for an upstart victory here. However, I think " Precious" may be too small of an art-house flick to WIN best picture, and I don't think it's going to have the kind of widespread support across the academy's tech branches that's usually needed to win best picture. ( Read more ... )SourceYes, Christoph Waltz for Best Supporting Actor, please! |

Teary Lindsay flees from Ex Lindsay Lohan fled a nightclub in tears after a confrontation with her ex- gal pal, Courtenay Semel, who has begged her to go to rehab. The starlet stormed out of Brittny Gastineau's birthday party at Crown Bar in Los Angeles Wednesday night after coming face-to-face with Semel, who dated Lohan in 2007 but recently asked her to seek help. A source said, "Everyone was trying to keep [Lohan and Semel] apart, especially since Courtenay is recently out of rehab and has pleaded with Lindsay to do the same. "Everything was fine for a while, and Lindsay seemed happy, but then there was a confrontation when she came out of the bathroom, and she ran out in tears. Everyone fears she's on some kind of self-destructive collision course." Other guests at Gastineau's party included Jill Zarin, Nicole Murphy and Jamie Foxx. A rep for Lohan said of her storming out, "That's news to me," while Semel's rep did not return calls. Then, on Thursday night, despite pleas from her father, Michael Lohan, to go into rehab, Lindsay continued partying, joining up with Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos and staying out with him until 7 a.m. yesterday in LA. Earlier in the night outside club Voyeur in Hollywood, she blasted her dad as an attention-seeker for releasing private recordings of her mother, Dina, sounding panicked about her condition. She told photographers, "Why don't you go find my dad, he's the one that wants the pictures," before heading to Niarchos' pad at about 2 a.m. VIDEO: LOHAN SLAMS PAPA Beverly Hills addiction counselor Marty Brenner told us, "Her dad is putting her in a scary situation. Getting her into rehab should be done quietly with love and respect, not by public criticism. He is just forcing her to rebel, and it's just a time bomb waiting to happen. |

Gerard Butler on Jonathan Ross Highlights: - talks about how 300 was made and the different ways they thought he could say "This is Sparta!" - how he got fired a week before qualifying to become a lawyer - he wasn't actually supposed to play the role he does in Law Abiding Citizen. At the last moment, he switched. - gives a shout out to two cops who pulled him over. - Jonathan made Gerard introduce every guest in his 300 voice, so they were all introduced as "THIS IS *insert name here*". You can youtube those interviews and see them. sourceHe looks so good! I just wish the interview was longer. |

'I Can't Resist My Mom's Baking' by Alec Baldwin For the holidays, my mother bakes every kind of cookie and pie and cake she can. She has 18 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and even they can’t eat all of the treats she puts out. Everyone in my family knows that I try to eat healthy and I’m trying to cut back on sugar. So I look at the dessert table at my mother’s house and quietly grumble. But then, sure enough, there’s always the one thing Current Mood: hungry |

Nude Football Player
NFL tight end Tony Gonzalez makes another amazing play! But this time it's not one of his record breaking receptions, it's his all-star move for animals. The football sensation and his wife October are baring it all in a PETA ad to tell people to wear their own skin and let animals keep theirs. In the ad, Tony and October say "we'd rather go naked than wear fur." You can hear Tony tell you about how his nearly-vegan diet helps him on and off the football field in exclusive video Q&A with him and October here! here
Elephants In Zoos
That's right. India, which is home to an estimated 23,900 to 32,900 wild elephants, will no longer allow its most prominent national symbol—the elephant—to be imprisoned in zoos. The move by India's Central Zoo Authority (CZA) comes after years of campaigning by PETA India to improve conditions for captive elephants (it has already succeeded in getting performing elephants banned from Mumbai and other cities). Check out this moving ad above featuring Bollywood star Rahul Khanna. 3 |

New biographical movie on Gainsbourg: Serge Gainsbourg, vie Heroique The film will be the directorial feature debut of Joann Sfar, the award-winning French graphic artist. Sfar also wrote the screenplay. Serge Gainbourg (Vie Heroique) is being produced by One World Films in conjunction with Universal Pictures International Studio (UPIS) and Studio 37. The film is the first local production that UPIS has co-produced in France. It is One World's second film project following Alix de Maistre's Pour Un Fils (For A Son). The film traces Gainsbourg's life from a young boy named Lucien Ginsburg in 1940s occupied Paris, to his subsequent transformation into the world renowned poet, songwriter and singer Serge Gainsbourg.
Speaking about Joann Sfar, Christian Grass, president of UPIS said: 'His cutting edge creativity and unique take on the character of Serge Gainsbourg is what really drew us to this project - the first local language film we'll be co-producing in France.' Universal Pictures International retains French theatrical distribution and home video rights to the project and will release the film in France in 2010. Studio 37 holds the international sales which will be run by Kinology. Eric Elmosnino stars as Gainsbourg, Laetitia Casta plays Brigitte Bardot, while Mylene Jampanoi takes the role of Bambou. Frederique Dumas of Studio 37 said: 'The film combines two worlds, Joann Sfar's and Serge Gainsbourg's, the magic of one and the emotional strength of the other. The script is beautiful, and Joann's cinematic vision is unique, which gives the film a universal appeal. We are extremely happy to be collaborating with Universal on a film led by two such talented producers.' Current Music: Lykke Li - Breaking It Up |

X Factor and Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole versus Lily Allen - again
Ding ding – it’s Round 278 of the feud between Lily Allen and Cheryl Cole. And they’re both clearly still up for battle. Organisers made sure their paths didn’t cross backstage at the Children in Need gig by making sure their dressing rooms were far apart. But we saw Lily on feisty form as she got a ringside view of Chezza’s song via a monitor – belting out a comic “Fight, fight, fight, fight, fight for this love”. She tried to score more points by mimicking her Geordie rival’s soldier dance footwork and cracked herself up by punching the air. The two famously fell out when Lily first boxed Cheryl into a corner by calling her a “stupid bitch” on her blog – and Chezza, right, hit back by branding Lil a “chick with a dick”. So if they ever get the chance to square up again face to face to swap more insults, it’ll be a case of... knock yourselves out, girls! Source |
